Eskisehir has added the special feature of “City of Culture and Art” to its identity with the art institutions and facilities initiated successively by the Metropolitan Eskisehir Municipality recently.
Eskisehir gained lots of new art establishments and institutions with the election of Prof.Dr Yılmaz Büyükerşen as the Mayor of Metropolitan Eskisehir Municipality. During his term of rectorship of Anadolu University he had established a conservatoire and lots of arts facilities within the structure of the University. As a Mayor he found the opportunity to extend artistic investments to the whole of the city. Eskisehir gained 3 establishments of art such as City Theatres, Symphony Orchestra, City Opera.
City Theatres at Full Speed
The City Theatres opened its curtains after an interval of 40 years. The performances are always sold out and it also accomodates a children theatre within its structure. The City Theatres perform plays on the one hand and works to spread the art of theatre to wider audiences with units such as creative drama, conventional theatre and youth theatre on the other hand. Today it meets the audience on its 3 different stages and represents Eskisehir in domestic and international arts festivals.

Anatolia’s Symphony Orchestra
There are two orchestras in Eskisehir being active within the structures of the Anadolu University and the Metropolitan Municipality.

The Metropolitan Municipality Symphony Orchestra meets Eskisehir audience twice a week. It is composed of young musicians, receives invitation from many local and foreign artistic organizations and organizes concerts with world wide famous artists.
The City Opera brings Eskisehir citizens together with the most privileged examples of opera and ballet representations regularly.

International Eskisehir Festival
The International Eskisehir Festival takes an important place within the culture and art activities in the City. The International Eskisehir Festival, initially organized by the family foundation Zeytinoglu Education, Science and Culture Foundation continues its activities under the auspices of the Urban Development Foundation established under the leadership of Prof.Dr.Yılmaz Büyükerşen. It is organized in autumn every year and brings artists and artist groups from all over the world together in Eskisehir. Different branches of art, from classical music to ethnical music, from cinema films to theatre and painting workshops give a different tone to the city for 10 days. Each year one country is hosted as the guest country within the scope of the festival.

International Children Theatres Festival
Another important art organization in Eskisehir is the International Children Theatres Festival organized by the Metropolitan Municipality. In the festival, organized in March every year, lots of domestic and international theatre groups stage their plays for the children of Eskisehir in the accompaniment of the universal language of art.

The Metropolitan Municipality which brought many art organizations to Eskisehir, continues its activities. Following the theatre halls, concert halls and exhibition halls, a fully equipped Arts Center is put into service by the Municipality. Tepebasi Stage, the first of the City Theatres is established in the Haller Youth Center. The Metropolitan Municipality Arts and Culture Palace of 600 person capacity, and accomodating theatre, opera, ballet and concert halls together with a multipurpose exhibition hall are opened in Eskisehir. Today the facility hosts concerts of Symphony Orchesta, plays of City Theatres, representations of City Opera and the International Eskisehir Festival and Eskisehir City Theatres International Children Theatres Festival.
