Eskisehir Economy

ECONOMIC STATUS
Eskisehir is defined as the door of Middle Anatolia opening to West. In addition to transportation facilities, opportunities of energy, suitable agricultural structure and rich mine resources, Eskisehir is also one of the cities advanced in industry.
Rapid increase of urban population with respect to rural population, existence of educated human resources, closeness of city to domestic markets due to its geographical location, suitability of energy and raw material resources, sufficient investments in the area of industrial infrastructure help the regional industry to grow day by day.

EDUCATION

1. Primary Education:
There are 133 primary schools in the center of the province as of 2009-2010 school year. The number of student is 72,560 in primary education level and 2,219 in preschool education level. The number of teachers is 130 in preschool education and 3,746 in primary education.

ANTIQUITY
Before the discovery of fire, on the region beginning from Sakarya River extending to Porsuk River, there was fruitful and deserted land. After the discovery of fire, human beings had come and settled down on this fruitful land which is rich in mineral resources. Life began first in caves then lasted in towns with houses made of marble.

HISTORICAL PLACES
Kursunlu Kulliyesi(Complex of Buildings):
Complex is in Pasa district of Odunpazari quarter. When one enters from the door with stairs, in center there is a fountain, a guesthouse at right, a soup kitchen at left and a mosque at opposite side. Kursunlu Kulliyesi was built in year 1517 by Veziri-sani Mustafa Pasa.

It was renewed between 1961-1962 years. At the back of the mosque, there is a worship hall and there are theological school rooms, in front there is an open place, which is evidence that the mosque is a whirling dervish hall.

City of Culture and Art: Eskisehir
Eskisehir has added the special feature of “City of Culture and Art” to its identity with the art institutions and facilities initiated successively by the Metropolitan Eskisehir Municipality recently.
Eskisehir gained lots of new art establishments and institutions with the election of Prof.Dr Yılmaz Büyükerşen as the Mayor of Metropolitan Eskisehir Municipality. During his term of rectorship of Anadolu University he had established a conservatoire and lots of arts facilities within the structure of the University. As a Mayor he found the opportunity to extend artistic investments to the whole of the city. Eskisehir gained 3 establishments of art such as City Theatres, Symphony Orchestra, City Opera.
City Theatres at Full Speed         
The City Theatres opened its curtains after an interval of 40 years. The performances are always sold out and it also accomodates a children theatre within its structure. The City Theatres perform plays on the one hand and works to spread the art of theatre to wider audiences with units such as creative drama, conventional theatre and youth theatre on the other hand. Today it meets the audience on its 3 different stages and represents Eskisehir in domestic and international arts festivals.
Anatolia’s Symphony Orchestra   
 There are two orchestras in Eskisehir being active within the structures of the Anadolu University and the Metropolitan Municipality.
The Metropolitan Municipality Symphony Orchestra meets Eskisehir audience twice a week. It is composed of young musicians, receives invitation from many local and foreign artistic organizations and organizes concerts with world wide famous artists.
The City Opera brings Eskisehir citizens together with the most privileged examples of opera and ballet representations regularly.
